Growable Wearables (GW) are speculative objects created in response to rising concerns about air pollution and loneliness in metropolitan cities. Initially inspired by the incredible Co2 offset capability of algae, GW are mobile wearable plant companions that effectively clean the air around citizens while worn. They act as companions to care for and nurture, and are eventually to be planted, ideally a collective action taken by users, creating biophilic interventions in urban space, all the while making new friends and purifying urban air. This project is meant to speculate on what is possible with the creation of viral trends, and how the absurd can eventually seep into the status quo, creating unprecedented cultural shifts. For GW, that shift is in the air we breathe, our relationships with each other, and the natural world.
